On two recent trips to Venice, my parents have brought back these delightful little mask for my daughter. We hope to continue to add to this little collection...
The Carnival tradition in Venice can be traced back to the 14th century. During Carnival -Venetian people used to wear fancy dresses and elaborate masks. Carnival as you may know, is the time of year to let loose -party and feast before the fast of Lent. During this time the streets of Venice become full of people in masks. Of course, in days gone past (and maybe today too), the reason which made them dress up and conceal their faces was the most obvious one: they did not want to be recognized.
I hope you enjoy these little masks as much as I do :-)

Oh how fun and great histroy. You have a darling blog and I love that you named it after your daughter. Thanks for visiting and I shall be back.
What a lovely and timely post...thanks for the information on the Venetian festivities!
I have been to Venice and we have Carnaval too, I have never seen carnaval in Venice though. Maybe one day. Enjoy your masks.
GORGEOUS!
Disney Vacations does an Italian family getaway in which you can take a class at a local Venetian artist's shop and creat your OWN mask. Maybe something to look into for her collection. :)
What fun! Very pretty.

Those are gorgeous masks. My best friend collects them too. Have a wonderful weekend. I read that you are from San Francisco. My aunt lived on Cayuga street for years and I would get to visit her during the summer. It is my favorite city!
