Carpe Diem - Framed Hermes Scarf

I wanted to share with you another of my scarves which I framed. I really like this one because of the many different and beautiful colors, the amazing sun and of course the symbolism of "Carpe Diem" (Seize the Day -- I must remind myself each day to do this!)

Fun Girls Party - Pink Jeweled Boxes - IV

Another fun activity I had planned for the girls was this decorating project with little wooden hinged boxes. I purchased them at Michael's and painted each one inside and out in pink. I also purchased a huge bag of jewels which were super fun. At the party I had little stickers with each girls name which they placed at the bottom of their box. I spread the entire bag of jewels over the table so each girl could choose which jewels she wanted for her box. Then my mom, sister and I had glue guns and the girls brought over their boxes with the jewels and we glued them on. (It is important to be super careful with glue guns and children) In this way the jewels would stay on and we would not have a huge glue mess anywhere.

When the girls were finished I removed any spaghetti glue strings from their boxes then wrapped them in tissue paper and placed them in their goody bags which also had their names on them. The girls seemed to enjoy this project.

On Friday this will be in Cindy's Show and Tell Friday at the beautiful My Romantic Home.

On Saturday it will be entered in the fabulous Pink Saturday at How Sweet the Sound. This is one of the funnest blog parties there is!!!!

Fun Girls Party - Goody Bags - I

We had a wonderful time at my daughter's birthday party. Over the next few days I hope to share with you our fun activities which included cupcake decorating and the making of a beautiful jeweled box.

I thought I would start off by showing you the goody bags we put together for the all girls party. In each bag we had a yummy Hershey's chocolate bar and paddle. We also bought some little white teddy bears and my mom knitted these cute little scarves for them. (Sorry the pictures look a little different my mom came just before the party began with all the bears and I had to scramble to put the bears inside the goody bags, I took the other pictures earlier so the light was different) One thing I liked about the goody bags is that they were very decorative. I also purchased this inexpensive "dream" sign which was cute and matched the goody bags , I can also use it again for other parties...

Scarf Framing - Regina the Queen

This is a little decorating secret I have, which I just love - framed scarves. I have them all over the house and only wish I had more. Frankly, I prefer them over other pictures. There are so many scarves out there that you can always find one that suits your taste or decorating needs. Because of their size they look amazing over a bed or over the couch.

I have been framing scarves for many, many years. There used to be a really beautiful department store here in San Francisco called I.Magnin. As you would walk into the store one of the first things you saw was their scarf department. They always had a few scarves in these amazing frames that were spectacular. My partner in crime (my mom) and I inquired about where we could get a scarf framed. They informed us about a lovely frame shop also in San Francisco. We visited the frame store only to leave very, very disappointed as the cost of framing the scarf was many times over the price of the scarf. Yikes! So my mom and I decided to do it ourselves. We have never regretted it. Here is one of my favorites. It hangs over a bed and it is the focal point of the room. I just love it. He
Update: I entered this scarf frame in Cindy's Show and Tell Friday. Cindy's amazing blog is at My Romantic Home click here for link.

Making A Door Basket with Flowers

I read an interesting article about feng shui and how they consider the front door to be extremely important. In feng shui the front door is a place where good energy flows into the home. It must be clean, well lit, and welcoming.

After taking down all our Christmas decorations a while ago, our front door was very bare. I decided to make this flower basket instead of getting a new wreath. I purchased the metal basket at Michael's along with the white flowers. So far this is what I have. Does anyone have any comments or tips? I think it needs something a little extra , or maybe not, can't make up my mind :-)

May I Offer Anyone a Slice of Torte di Bomboniere

Recently my little baby niece was baptised and it was a very important event in our family. My sister and brother-in-law graciously allowed me to partake in the preparations for this blessed event. I wanted to create something very special for the party favors -so I made a Torta Bomboniere for her.

In Italy these special creations are hand made for special celebrations such as baptisms, first communions, weddings and birthdays. Torta is the word for "cake" and Bomboniere the word for "favor". The concept behind the Bomboniere, originated in France, over 300 years ago, when a small box of sweets (the french word for -bonbons) was given away to guests at celebrations. Overtime the idea spread to other parts of Europe and in particular to Italy where the Torta Bonboniere was created.

Inside each cake slice you will find five jordan almonds to wish: happiness, health, wealth, good fortune and a long life. You can also place a little card inside commemorating your special event.

Here are the boxes I created for my little niece. It was a lot of fun cutting out the boxes which look like cake slices and then "frosting" the cake with ribbons, stickers and little angels.
